    Justin's #108/2000 Build Thread

After a long hiatus of working way too much, and a lot of other projects going on, I'm happy to say that the VR4 will get a little love and miles again this coming year. Have a Track Claw brake kit to install, some of the last of the EBC rear rotors/caliper rebuild, and a re-tune after the...

    Aftermarket fan won’t turn on

Before you get too far ahead of yourself, you might not have had it hot enough to need the fan. Just below halfway on the gauge is just under normal operating temp, and the thermostat was probably just opening. If you press the AC switch twice (IIRC once is Eco, second is Max) it should turn...

    What kind of Coilovers?

My FEAL coilovers feel great. I prefer them over the K-Sport and springs/shocks I used to have. As far as spacers, run as thin as you can, and get hub-centric if possible. JMFabrications still makes them in a few thicknesses.

    Brake Fitment help!

Baer Track claws use PBR calipers which are OEM minus the Baer logo for F-Body and Mustang in the mid-late 90's, early 2000's. The closest bolt on is probably the Gen1 CTS-V caliper, which doesn't need a bracket, just needs to shim the rotor out with a small spacer and a little grinding I think.

FS: JDM VR4 Evo Spec Front bumper

Posting this up for a local who isn't on here much. Located in Southeast PA.He imported it from Malaysia a few years ago and had it repainted Kensington Grey. The chrome strip is no longer there. Will include brackets to bolt on to US chassis.$1000 plus shipping/fees if needed.

    WTB: Steering wheel with adapter

I have the OEM and now a leather wrapped 1G wheel in #108. Looking to change up with something else. Something subtle and clean looking. No crazy colors/buttons/detaching hubs etc.

    Info for adjusting TPS ?

Between the signal out wire (should be Green/wht) and ground (Green/blk)
  9. EMX5636

    Info for adjusting TPS ?

Should be 0.48-0.51V at idle. DSMLink wants to see closer to 0.63v (and that is where the 2G Idle switch is activated).

Bought more interesting JDM stuff from G, this time a strut tower bar. Never an issue, and no hesitation buying from again.

    Inline pcv route

There's a little more info needed for something like that. Typically, there is no such thing as "too big". If you're stock boost with a stock ring gap engine, you could probably get by with 3/8"(#6) hoses. If you have a looser setup, I'd say 1/2(#8) minimum, preferably 5/8" (#10)

    Twin Disc Clutch Survey

I absolutely love my Exedy twin plate. But sadly, I don't think they're available anymore. I bought a spare a while back for parts in case I needed to rebuild it. I have 25-30k on it at 500~ whp.

Are they baffled? I might pick this up. Thanks!

What do you lube your coilovers pillow balls with?

Just be careful. Most liquid lubricants will actually attract dirt/grit and wear the joint out faster. For this, I'd recommend a dry lubricant spray, and wipe off any excess. Another thing to consider is, some pillow ball joints have a thin layer of teflon or other material in the cup so no...

Opinions on Suspension Tech rear sway bar kit?

I had the front bar installed in my DSM. I took it out because they understeer enough from the factory. I have only been using an aftermarket rear bar since then. I'll see if I can find a picture. As mentioned though, it does go underneath the front subframe, and parallels the stock bar...

    WTB: Evo wheels

I have a set painted bronze that I would sell. Have pretty much dead 225-45's on them now, so they'd need tires. I might have a set of 235/45 DWS Continentals floating around if you wanted tires too. They're the ones on my car in my build thread.
  22. EMX5636

    WTB: Factory rear toe hooks

First set goes to Bob, but I would actually buy a second set to keep as a core here for future use on hitches.

    Cracked Bell Housing... advice

Buying a replacement transmission is probably the easiest solution, unless you or a friend can tear the transmission down to replace just the bellhousing. It could be welded though, if you have anyone nearby good with cast aluminum. Needs to be removed from the car either way.

Has anyone ordered from Mitsubishi Parts Warehouse?

Most guys on here that order OEM parts use JNZTuning.

If you email JNZ, they have what you need.

    Finally found the noise

Definitely check the gear teeth if that bearing is that toast. When the shafts walk like that, they tend to get weird wear marks in them.

    182's Hitch -Justin Built

Yes Ben, I need a stock set of rear VR4 tow hooks. Don't need to be perfect, but in-tact. PM me if you'd like to move ahead. Eventually, if there's enough interest, I'll either start stocking sets of hooks to exchange, or build my own.

Glad you got it all installed! Looks great! Even more hidden on a black car. As far as prices, PM me. Sub $200 is correct, but I need a set of tow hooks from you first, and I need to check availability of my powdercoat guy. So exact totals will depend on what you want included etc...

    Alternative OFH feed

You can't remove it without either removing the cover, or drilling a hole in the cover to access the one hidden 8mm long bolt. I drilled and plugged mine when I had the cover off, in case I ever needed to swap housings. But hindsight 20/20. I've been where you are before, just for a different...

    Alternative gearing

I think everyone is on PPG in the US. I was considering the synchro straight cut gearset from PAR, but after driving my faceplated trans for the last 3 years or so, I have zero issues with another dogbox.
  38. EMX5636

    Alternative OFH feed

The other/lower port is unfiltered, so you can use it if you install an in-line filter and clean/replace it when you do oil changes.

Curious about why these roof racks are different

I have an OEM Thule rack, and it looks like the one on the left. Allen hidden inside (for theft I'd guess) and plastic outer covers.

    Alternative gearing

Definitely taller gearing for 1 and 2. My only concern would be the strength of the metal they are using. Never heard of that company.Tell you what though, if they are stronger than stock, they should get on producing a 3/4 setup, even if stock gearing. Just to fix the main weak link in...

    Methanol kit recommendation

Glad to hear you got it straightened out Nate. I had similar issues with meth coming in too soon. I have my activation setpoint through DSMLink to come on around 18psi. The alcohol isn't a bad thing to run. On my old 1G I stayed with 50/50 water/alky and had very good results, even with the...

    Headlight replacement options

I'm part of the "HID bulbs in EDM/JDM housings" crew. Light output is awesome, and I live in the freaking woods. I also have 3k HID's in my fogs, and with the two on, they are brighter than the high beams. I don't have any issues with people flashing me on a daily basis, but I have both the...
  44. EMX5636

    Methanol kit recommendation

My car will only take about 29-30psi on straight pump with very mild timing (8-10*). But I've had it to about 36psi on the old BW turbo with the 1000cc meth on top with decent timing numbers (17-18* IIRC) and no knock. I'm out of injector though with 1150's. I think it will make more...
  45. EMX5636

    Methanol kit recommendation

To clarify though, I run a 50/50 mix of water/M1. M5 shouldn't be mixed, and does some different things so each car is different. My setup has always been knock happy, so I found that the M1 combats that better. The M5 will help oxygenate the fuel, but has less cooling effect etc.
  46. EMX5636

    Methanol kit recommendation

Well that car is long gone now. But on M5 he was only spraying with a single 675 nozzle. I'm running 1000cc of M1 in comparison. The Evo picked up about 100whp with the meth, and I think 20 or 30 over M1/pump with an extra nozzle.dyno video
  47. EMX5636

    Methanol kit recommendation

Oh for sure. But it picked up pretty good power over M1.
  48. EMX5636

Increasing Power while keeping stock systems in place

This is an oldie, but still holds true, aside from the tuning aspect. Skip the SAFC/piggybacks and go straight for DSMLink. You'll thank yourself now, and in the long run.clickThis has some good info as well. Again, dated, so skip the old school tuning, and spring for Link, but the...

    Methanol kit recommendation

My entire setup is mounted up front where the ABS used to be. I had it trunk mounted in my Eclipse, and it was a PITA.Also Nate, VP sells M1 Methanol in 5 gallon cans which is how I buy it. If you want to go crazy, my buddy swears by M5, which has bit of Nitromethane in it...
