    1992 Galant Vr4 #580/1000

If you are still having problems with this car let me know. I've tried to keep up on my old car as it has passed a few owners the past handful of years. I might be able to help you sort out things.

Welcome back! That 1g was pretty cherry, but that Galant has lots of potential!

    HotBits Suspension

I just want to necro an old thread to elaborate that the hotbits dt2 is/was best suspension setup I've had ever. I definitely think beeffajita either had a f'ed up shock damping build or wasn't preloading the lighter springs correctly. Hitting bump stops is very unpleasant from a ride quality...

    QM twin disc questions

You sold the QM to me. I ended up putting "street" friction disks with Tim Zimmer's Gear Drive setup. It worked great. You also sent me the accumulator and I didn't want/need it. I ended up selling it for a case of top shelf beer haha.

Have You Left The Game and Come Back??

Ughh.. So I've just been kind of lurking around. I haven't been on this site much since I sold 580 a couple years ago. I regret getting rid of her pretty much every day. It seems like every time I hangout with any of my car friends they ask about the ole girl. It is even worse that every year...

how do i tune this out?

What turbo are you running? I see your running 9:1 CR based off your modifications list in your profile. I would definitely run it richer at about 11:1 as said farther up. You'll get more power from boost and timing than leaning the mixture. When I was running pump with a 59mm turbo I couldn't...

    Fuel set-up for ~600whp

I don't have any of my fuel pump research data in front of me, but I believe your injectors would be first limiting factor running at a stock base fuel pressure. Since your not going to be able to run ridiculous boost pressures you can raise your base fuel pressure and stretch your injectors...

    2.3 stroker

Have almost 70k on my 2.3 stroker. There's more wear in the cylinder walls then a 2.0, but I wouldn't say its unacceptable. I'm only basing the comparison to other cars I've seen at my friends shop.As for crank I used a g4cs crank.
  14. thecman02

    Upgraded Camshaft and Base Timing

Do you have adjustable camshaft gears. Assuming everything else that has been said above hasn't helped; I've had good luck removing overlap to increase idle quality and even help on top end performance.

are you guys doubling up the oil return line gasket from turbo to line?

I see your from Kalamazoo!I put the white ring face on the turbo side, but it shouldn't matter. I never doubled up any of the gaskets on my cars.

The drivers side trim has a slight dent seen in the second picture, and the removable pieces aren't faded like the rest because I've always run the roof rack on the car. The wind visor and rails and feet have white overspray. I would recommnend taking the stickers off the visor and hitting...

    Gvr4 vs Evo8

Haven't owned an evo, but driven some for extended periods of time stock all the way to mid 9 second. Stock for stock I prefer the evo. A stock Galant is a dog with excessive body roll. However, once modded I love my Galant VR4 to death. I'm only jealous of the quicker steering rack, and lord...

    tre stage 3 or 4

I'll throw my opinion on the table. If you are making a pure high hp drag car, or street racing machine I would go auto. Place to get a good auto build. Its just easier on the driveline, you'll cut consistent and fast 60' all day. If you want an insane high horsepower street car(>400ftlbs...

What tells the fuel pump to run/ dumb cold start drama

How many miles are on the car? Have you noticed any noticeable decrease in fuel mileage? I've seen cars that had dirty injectors cause poor starting in cold conditions. If you have fairly high mileage on that car an injector cleaning would probably do wonders.

    No injector pulse...

I'm trying to figure out what things could have happened between the time you said you raced it to the time you got it as a rolling shell. What's the battery voltage of the car when you crank it? If the battery is too low the injectors won't fire. Do you have another set of injectors you could...

    No injector pulse...

Quoting Kenny_Kline: Impedance has nothing to do with injector pulse. My injectors are unplugged. But to answer your question, low impedance FIC 1350cc with injector resistor pack installed. Also, even if i was running a bad injector resistor pack, that would be a power issue, not a ground...
  27. thecman02

    No injector pulse...

Did you do a continuity check from the ECU to each injector? Are you running low impedance or high impedance injectors? If your running low impedance injectors I'd make sure your resistor pack didn't open up.

0 mile refreshed engine different build ideas

I would definitely run the stock engine. Most important part to longevity is having a good tune. Take the money you would have spent on some internals for tuning and related accessories. I'd park the power and torque around 400 and call it a day. Reliability and drive-ability go in the shitter...

    squeezing out the HP

You are on ecmlink. Do you have a log from the dyno pull, or maybe could do a pull on the street and post up the file?To me those seem like fairly legit numbers for a grandpa tech turbo. What was keeping them from turning up the boost? We really need more data to see where the power is locked...

    Your MPG/Highway Cruising Speed?

Quoting prove_it: Really? I lean burn the crap out of my E85 and get about 14-16mpg.... at 85mph.Otherwise, I average about 12-22 mixed pending on how heavy my foot is. At WOT it drops to around 1-2.....(just guessing)The other things playing in my favor for better mpg are the evo III 5th...

    Your MPG/Highway Cruising Speed?

At 70mph on E85 tuned open loop at around 15.5AF I usually get mid 20's (23-27). With roof rack and accessories/bikes I'm on the lower side.I have never gotten over 20 with city driving though. I just love accelerating hard.

    twin disc clutch?

Just to chime in on differences in twin discs. A friend of mines evo had the sprung exedy twin disk. They are easy to drive and quiet. As someone else said, it is like that because the friction material is way less aggressive, and the sprung hub reduces/eliminates resonance.I bought Mark's old...

    1000 hp build for 100/2000

Quoting biglady112:Wiseco is also another garbage fad product. Not enough meat to really get crazy with things.I'd tend to agree with most things you've said, but I've seen numerous builds make good power with custom Wiseco pistons. The off the shelf pistons are definitely more lack luster.

Teardown and inspection of another DSM machine shop short block build

They did better work when they had "less equipment". They just bought parts. Shipped everything to a real machine shop then bolted the sh*t together after it was machined. Some of the people working/worked there I wouldn't even trust to take measurements.

    Who here is in 10s?

You need to sweet talk the track prep crew into throwing down a little more traction compound on the strip. Then all you need to do is cross your fingers and hope you don't gut your trans from the hard launch. At shootout a guy sprayed my lane down. They through down the traction compound and I...
