  4. Boost Leak Test (Audio) Question

Just to be clear, the sound I'm talking about (that can hopefully be heard in the video) is a pulsating, intermittent sound, not a constant hiss.
  5. Boost Leak Test (Audio) Question

I've finished the boost leak testing, reinstalled the rockers and resealed the valve cover. I drove the car this week. I could never figure out definitively what this noise was, but my best guess is that it was air coming through the oil return line on the turbo, bubbling up through the oil in...
  6. Boost Leak Test (Audio) Question

I'm doing a boost leak test to rectify any leaks and I think I have been successful. But I'd like some input into what this noise is in the video:clickI have an idea, but would appreciate input. Background is this: roller rockers are removed on the intake side to (hopefully) ensure all the...
  7. WTB: Driver Windshield A Pillar/ Center AC Vents

I have an intact A-pillar plastic piece, I think. Let me know if you still need one and I'll find it.
  8. Please help- engine swap, won't start- RESOLVED

IT'S ALIVE!!It seems that there was at least one bad connection at the ECU. Likely as a result of me sticking the tip of the Fluke probes into the connector. I used a jeweler's screwdriver to press them all back where they should be and I got a spark. I put the plug back in and it fired up...
  9. Please help- engine swap, won't start- RESOLVED

Wiring for the PTU is in good shape. Even the rubber boot is still pliable. I may try to figure out if the trigger wires at pins 2 & 6 of the PTU are getting the signal from pins 54 & 55 of the ECU like they are supposed to during cranking.Pins 21 & 22 are getting the voltage changes as they...
  10. Please help- engine swap, won't start- RESOLVED

Thanks for the response. I've uncovered almost all of the wiring in the engine bay, so I'll go confirm the condition of the PTU wires is good. I have two '90 PTU's (both ran the Mirage engine) and two 91+ PTU's (unconfirmed to be working properly) and a 91+ PTU harness on hand. I agree the 91+...
  11. Please help- engine swap, won't start- RESOLVED

Injector resistor pack is known to be good too. That's related to fuel, but confirmed to be true nonetheless.
  12. Please help- engine swap, won't start- RESOLVED

Ok, guys. I've been trouble shooting for a week or two and can't figure out what I got wrong with the wiring. Background: This is a 4g61t swap into a 1990 AWD Colt Vista wagon. It's 1990 turbo ECU configuration; essentially a SOHC NA to DOHC turbo swap. There were 18 conductors out of the 52...

  24. FS: Galant Specific Car Cover- SOLD

I've been out of the VR-4 game for a while, but found my old car cover my wife bought me for Christmas one year and thought someone on the board might be interested. It's a bit dirty, but is in good shape with no tears. It fits perfectly on these cars, including on the side view mirrors. Asking...
  25. WTB: E5T01871 MAF

Looking for a E5T01871 mass air flow meter for an N/A Galant GS 2.0 liter.Thanks.
  26. WTB: ABS delete

I've got some 1g brake lines from a 1990 Laser GST. They're very clean, but I don't know if they have the bends in the right place and if they are the right length.
  27. Head rebuild

Yes, it's true there may be a good machine shop or two in Asheville. But the guy who is most recommended for his machining aptitude doesn't have the equipment or the desire to make the head look new when I get it back (i.e.: bead blasting, hot tanking). That's why I'm strongly considering...
  28. Head rebuild

What business do you guys recommend for head cleaning and machining? I may upgrade the springs, as I want to use HKS 272 cams, and I will use 3rd gen lifters, but for everything else stock specs are fine. Please post the prices for what you had done.
  29. SOLD- 1992 VR-4, Belize Green, #77/1000, $4000, Asheville, NC

I remembered I installed ARP headstuds when I put the reworked head on. Also, the car has a 3" catalytic converter and, due to the Cyclone manifold, there is no EGR valve. That may have an impact on inspection in some states. Oh yeah, and the downpipe has a ding in it from a big piece of rip rap...
  30. SOLD- 1992 VR-4, Belize Green, #77/1000, $4000, Asheville, NC

Thanks for the bump, Chris. Sorry, but I need to downsize so I'm not interested in any trades. Here are some more photos as requested by interested parties. I washed it tonight and for the most part it's a nice car. If it does sell, I'll miss it. My eight-year-old daughter said the same thing...
  31. SOLD- 1992 VR-4, Belize Green, #77/1000, $4000, Asheville, NC

TTT.I just lowered my asking price to $4000. If I can't get $4000, I'll keep the car.
  32. SOLD- 1992 VR-4, Belize Green, #77/1000, $4000, Asheville, NC

Here are some interior photos someone asked to see:
  33. SOLD- 1992 VR-4, Belize Green, #77/1000, $4000, Asheville, NC

Ok, I've had some time to assess the car a bit better and I think the price was too high so I dropped it to $4800. It just needs more work than I originally thought to make it really nice. I discovered some other issues:More good: I have lots of spare parts to do almost all the work that is...
  34. SOLD- 1992 VR-4, Belize Green, #77/1000, $4000, Asheville, NC

The time has come for me to scale back on projects, so my VR-4 I've had for 13 years is up for sale. I've done lots of work on it over the years and I would say it's probably 80% of the way to where I want it. I wish I had the time to address the remaining shortcomings of the car and get that...

  37. FS: G4CS block- FREE if you pick it up

Ok, sorry for taking so long, but below are some photos:I'm really looking for local pickup to avoid the hassle of shipping. The 1st local guy let me know he is no longer interested, so let me know if you're local and want it. The water jacket is rusty, but...
  38. FS: G4CS block- FREE if you pick it up

Ok, just an update. I still haven't weighed the block or taken photos, but I should be able to get it done by Monday. I do have a guy interested and he can pick it up, so I won't have to deal with shipping. I will keep all of you posted.Thanks.
  39. Starting issues

I was getting 11.87 volts at the black/yellow turn on lead to the solenoid with the key in the start position.Yeah, you're right; I could've taken it to a shop/store like you described. I thought you meant did I have an ammeter here at the house that I could check that kind of current flow...
  40. FS: G4CS block- FREE if you pick it up

Yes, it's bone stock as far as I know- standard bore for a G4CS. It has all the caps and I may have left the bearings in place to protect the journals. Keep the questions coming and I'll post info as I look into the shipping cost.
  41. FS: G4CS block- FREE if you pick it up

Let me look into it. I'll have to drag it down from my storage loft weigh it, and it's obviously heavy. I'll get back with you. Thanks for the inquiry.
  42. Starting issues

A positive lead from the battery to the solenoid (as Iceman suggested) resulted in intermittent engagement- the starter (or at least the solenoid) is bad. Turns out I have a total of 5 starters here at Dave's junkyard: one M1T70483 (the original Galant starter, which is bad), three M1T70481's...
  43. FS: G4CS block- FREE if you pick it up

I have a 2.4 g4cs block for sale. It's completely stripped, I even removed the freeze plugs. In really good shape ready for hot tanking and machining for a 2.4 crank. This is only the block; no crank or bearings or anything else. I did drill two holes in the deck so it matches the 4g63t head gasket.
  44. Starting issues

I just checked the voltage at the black/yellow turn on lead that goes to the starter solenoid and it was 11.87 volts. I'll replace the starter.
  45. Starting issues

I'm stumped. I know starter issues are not uncommon presumably due to the age of these cars, but I haven't found anything helpful. I seem to remember Jeff O. posting something helpful, but I can't find it.Background:For quite a while now the car would not start when the key was turned. I...
  46. WTB: isolator between engine bay and wheel well

What's an isolator? Not being jerky, but I figure if I don't know what you mean others may not either.
