  2. 690/1000 bites the dust - part out/sell

Quoting uncleben4rice: Find a shell, and start again. You can do it. That is a built car you have. Glad your okay. Thanks for that.. I certainly could, but I don't think I have it in me. Looking at a CLA45 AMG and if I can swing that, I may just be happy with a stock car for once in my life.
  3. 690/1000 bites the dust - part out/sell

Sorry for the delays everyone. Work has been a bit crazy last couple of weeks. Will start taking parts off and responding to PMs this week.
  4. 690/1000 bites the dust - part out/sell

Thanks for the condolences all. It is a really sad/crappy thing. No insurance info was exchanges. The other party told police she just wanted to get to the club.Just now getting around to tearing it apart. Have some interest in the car as a whole but I'd want ~$4k and I don't think that's...
  5. 690/1000 bites the dust - part out/sell

Hit a stopped vehicle sitting at a green light. Didn't swerve enough to miss. Sucks. I think this ends the GVR4 adventure for me.PMs/comments welcome for any interest (parts or car as a whole)Damage is likely repairable with new hood, right fender, right front frame rail, core...

i'll check them out. love how your car sits. love the color too! Thanks!
  7. Galant VR4 spring kits

Hello all, I currently have cut stock springs and hate the ride.Looking for a kit that does NOT have a rake..H&R kit appears to keep the factory rake, thus I do not want it.I've searched a bit and found mention of the Eibach ProKit but I can't seem to find links or part numbers.I...

  10. Cruise Control INSTALL?

Found this thread in a search for +throttle +cable - funny it has just been revived - now i won't get flamed for bringing it back from the dead.My car sat for many years, and amongst the various harnesses/connectors that rodents chewed off, my cruise>throttle cable was also damaged. I've...
  11. Are these wires interchangeable?

    thanks for clearing that up!
  12. Galant VR4 wiring harness part numbers?

thanks for the link, it will def come in handy, but I couldn't find any wiring harnesses on that site. Have you been able to? Am I missing something?
  13. Are these wires interchangeable?

I don't think that the connector circled in red is in the diagram. There are 5 'connectors' on my throttle body. Only 4 are listed in the diagram.Three on the front (of which two are listed in the diagram), one on top, and one on the back.Unless I have a weird thermostat housing...
  14. Service manuals

Or try the 'Library': https://www.galantvr4.org/docs/I've found that the manuals on lilevo differ and are misleading/incorrect (specifically electrical manuals) when I was trying to determine the tb connectors/wire colors.
  15. Are these wires interchangeable?

Quoting veganbutcher: Does anyone know what this sensor is for circled in red? I believe it is a second coolant temp sensor for underneath the thermostat.I don't think this question ever got answered, and I'm wondering too. Anyone?
  16. Galant VR4 wiring harness part numbers?

Can anyone check their manual or CAPS for me and tell me our wiring harness part numers? Please?(eg MB822103 = main body harness I think)
  17. Wanted - Picture of GVR4 A/C Compressor

mcbride89 - is the belt pulley section of your compressor the same or larger diameter than the clutch? See attached for my compressor. It doesn't appear to match yours. The belt pully on mine is a larger diameter than the clutch. Anyone else have any comments?
  18. Wanted - Picture of GVR4 A/C Compressor

Thanks! Is ASA something I have access to? like CAPS?
  19. Wanted - Picture of GVR4 A/C Compressor

Hi All, I have what I think is a GVR4 A/C compressor, but my mechanic is telling me it is not a DSM compressor. I know our compressors aren't the same. Can someone please post a pic of their compressor? Also list the brand? Any help appreciated.

  22. Diff. oil pumps?

Quoting CO VR4:If you don't abide by this limitation, you'll sieze the oil pump and grenade your motor. Guaranteed.Sorry to bring this back from the dead.. Any idea how to tell the front cases apart? Our GVR4's came with straight-cut right? I'm pretty sure I have the right front case...
  23. Water pump opinions

apparently the one on the left is OEM AISIN - the one on the right is apparently a BOSCH part. I like the BOSCH design - looks like it would have kept this from happening..
  24. Water pump opinions

got a few more q's, if anyone is interested in helping..found out the brake hose mounting brackets were mounted on the front of the struts, not the back, and rubbed up against the wheel tire.. so i'll be needing some front brake hardlines....anyway, I put in 3g lifters today, and the noise...

Quoting HunterDG: ... the car is only running on #1 & #4 though, but I haven't checked spark plugs so i'm crossing my fingers on that.. hopefully it's nothing to do with the fact that I'm running 91+ coils on a 90 PTU.well.. the 90 PTU was bad, so I swapped in the 91+ and it runs on all 4...

OK. that stinks, but thanks very much for your help!
  30. 1G DSM, get it up and running thread.

See.. I saw your tach adapter.. but it wasn't quite clear that it would work for my situation....I understand that that your adapter converts the pulses generated by the 1990 tach-pulse-generator (on the coilpack) to a signal that the 1991 ECU can understand. It doesn't touch the signal...

Sorry, I seem to have forgotten that this is a VR4 forum.. haha.. just realized how much of an ass I must look like asking about this stuff on here..I'll post up on a DSM forum and see what I can find.
  32. 1G DSM, get it up and running thread.

Quoting keydiver: The tach will go crazy, but it won't affect the way the car runs. If you disconnect the wire to pin #109 while you are at it the tach will behave also. The only downside will be that you will never get a code #44 if there is a misfire. Thanks a bunch! swapped the pins and...
  33. 1G DSM, get it up and running thread.

I'd love to use my VR4 ecu to test...Maybe someone (keydiver?) can comment:when using a 91+ ecu in a 90, can I just swap pins 6 & 14, and keep the 90 PTU or must I upgrade to a 91+ PTU as well? (is the PTU rewiring JUST for the TACH signal, or is it necssary for the ECU to run the car...

Quoting keoni176: Here is how you can read the cel code without a logger. Old school but still works.buzzerKeoni, and Wizardawd, thanks very much for the info.. i'm a bit ashamed to say I missed that article on the vfaq..anyway.. i ended up hooking up a little car alarm siren I had...

is there any way to pull codes from the ECU WITHOUT a logger? (like honda/nissan which, when put in diag mode, flash the CE light to 'spell out' error codes)

Quoting HunterDG: Quoting jepherz: Unplug the maf and see if it runs longer. Maybe the maf is broken and outputting values WAY off. Unplugging the maf will make it run, albeit very rough. Will do when I get home!Happy B-Day!unfortunately, unplugging the MAF had no effectp.s...

Quoting dsm_drew: Your ECU could be bad, especially if you hear the ISC clicking....sorry, I totally missed this post..I took the ECU out, and to be perfectly honest, it looks FLAWLESS! I'll post pictures on request, if that will help to be sure, but everything looks to be in great...

Well, the fuel pump was to blame.. completely rusted.. cleaned out the tank and replaced the pump with a walbro 255, and now the car starts, but will only run for ~30 seconds..I don't have a logger right this moment, and will probably have to make a cable this weekend.. anyone have any...

  45. Stock vs Clevite thrust bearing question..notches??

Thanks for your reply, and the info that i was not aware.. but it confused me a bit..to clarify, i'm only speaking about the center (thrust) bearing in this instance..Both the bottom and top half-(circle) of the bearings have the two notches on the inner surface, right where they meet...
  46. Stock vs Clevite thrust bearing question..notches??

I've just taken the crank out.. and looking at the stock thrust bearings, I've noticed they have notches machined on the inner surface, where the two meet, while the Clevites do not. It seems i have heard that some Clevite resellers 'mod' the bearings (FFWDConnection). Is this what they are...
  47. suggestions (or a FAQ) on removing/replacing wiring harness?

well here's a mini-FAQ then..to remove the wiring harness, the HVAC blower assembly and AC Core need to be removed as well.this involves disconnecting the AC lines from the firewall in the engine compartment (this will release any coolant you have, and is illegal in many states, so...
  48. suggestions (or a FAQ) on removing/replacing wiring harness?

I'm in the process of removing my engine harness.. have it completely d/c from the engine bay.. but having trouble finding the firewall entry point from the inside of the car.. It looks like i'm going to have to remove the HVAC blower assembly or more.. but i'm curious if anyone can offer tips...
