  3. How do you say Galant?

Yeah, that is a beautiful car.Sounds like most of you say it the same as we do up north. I was curious if there was a regional difference like with Celicas.
  4. How do you say Galant?

YoutubeIs this how you Americans pronounce Galant, or is it just this guy?
  5. Starion LSDs

Dang, that's a shame. I've had an eye out for an EVO lsd, don't see a lot of them come up for sale in Canada.
  6. Starion LSDs

Does anyone know if the mechanical lsd from a Starion can be swapped in to a DSM rear diff? I have a line on one for a good price. It'd be nice to upgrade from the viscous unit.
  7. Driving with driveshaft out

Should I be able to drive my car in and out of the garage with the driveshaft out? (Driveway has enough slope that it would probably take 3 or 4 people to push it back in) Or would I just burn out the viscous coupler?
  8. Just an FYI, fuel filler tubes

Are we talking about the rubber section? I'm pretty sure when mine failed I just replaced it with a generic rad hose that had a 90° bend at one end. No reason to worry about them becoming scarce imo.
  9. Fuel tank vent valve

    Works for me. Thanks.
  10. Fuel tank vent valve

Does the blue valve on top of the fuel tank act as a 1 way check valve, or is it just there to prevent fuel going through it in the case of a roll-over? I noticed tonight that I can blow quite easily through it in both directions. Is that normal? Is there a way to test if it's still working...
  11. Electric exhaust cutout ... or convert to full 3"

Was the wastegate just what you had lying around, or was there another reason you used that over a cut-out?
  12. FS: Gvr4 cold side intercooler pipes $60 shipped

    Will you ship to Canada?
  13. Electric exhaust cutout ... or convert to full 3"

I started looking into the cut out idea a couple years ago, but what was pointed out to me is that if I ever wanted to do any track or autocross events the cut out would probably exceed the noise limitations for the event, so I'd be better off keeping it simple and going with free-er flowing...
  14. What's your oil temp?

Hmm, sounds like I should get a gauge with a colder range then. Mine starts at 140, which makes it kinda useless when the weather's cold; the needle hardly ever moves.
  15. What's your oil temp?

Good to know. I installed mine into the oil drain plug, but I think the sender is recessed too much, since it seems to sit around 140, and even bagging on it I don't think I've seen it go above 170 or so.
  16. clearance for transaxle drop

Quoting JCorbo25: I use the human tranny jack method: Lay under car, slide tranny away from engine, drop on chest, roll it to the side. For install, human tranny jack also: Lay under car, slide tranny on top of your chest, bench press up and pull your knees under it, wiggle into position and...
  17. What's your oil temp?

For those with oil temp gauges, what temperatures do you typically see?
  18. Cruise Control INSTALL?

Yeah, MB697204 is what I came up with. It's the one highlighted in pink that you need, right?
  19. Cruise Control INSTALL?

If you send me your VIN I can look up the P/N in ASA for you.
  20. Are these genuine EVO III 16G housings.

I think all the clues as to whether a turbo is genuine MHI or not are found on the compressor housing, so it might be impossible to tell just from the pictures on those auctions.
  21. Cross hatching Cam Journals and a couple other head questions

Thanks for all the input so far guys. I'm not entirely sure what to do with it at this point. I'm leaning towards carefully cleaning up those coolant passages and running it, and just crossing my fingers that the cams aren't way out of wack. Is it possible to measure cam clearance like you...
  22. EMERGENCY--Car died and is sitting on side of freeway

Almost certainly an alternator. Though it's always possible it could be a fusible link, or a loose connection on the alternator.Depending on how far you are from your house, if you can borrow a charged battery, or charge yours up you might be able to drive it back just on battery power...
  23. Cross hatching Cam Journals and a couple other head questions

No, the head wasn't on my car. I'm assuming the machine shop got it as a core from someone.
  24. Cross hatching Cam Journals and a couple other head questions

Also, the coolant passages for the number 3 cylinder seem to be blocked off somewhat, like it wasn't cast right. I'm thinking I should try to grind them out a bit so they look like the other ones. Or is this a somewhat normal thing?
  25. Cross hatching Cam Journals and a couple other head questions

So I just got my head back from the machine shop. Long story short, I have reason to suspect the quality of the work done on this head. This is the first head I've ever had to do, so I don't really know what I'm looking for as far as quality. A friend of mine was looking at it and said that...
  26. FS: Cam Timing Tool

Just sent you payment for 1. Now if DSM graveyard would just send my head so I could use it...
  27. FS: Cam Timing Tool

I'm interested in one of these when the next batch is ready as well. How much more is it for you to ship to Canada? (Postal code is T2Y 2V8)
  28. A/C Compressor Rebuild

After 4 years with no A/C I figure I may as well try to get it working while I have the head off the engine. I know there's a leak somewhere, and there appears to be some sort of goop on the compressor, I think towards the pulley wheel. Is it possible to rebuild an A/C compressor at home, or...
  29. Cruise Control INSTALL?

Quoting Adorsey: In a Galant vr4 correct? If so..... I have a cruise control setup I will sell you. Just need the fire wall bolts to attach it.How much do you want for that shipped to Canada? (T2Y 2V8)
  30. Cruise Control INSTALL?

Sorry for not mentioning it. The car is an '89 JDM VR-4. (EFI, manual)That's a good point about checking if the car is pre-wired for cruise. From looking at the service manual wiring schematics it looks like the cruise control module sits somewhere above the fuse box under the dash and has...
  31. Cruise Control INSTALL?

Does anyone know how feasible it would be to install the cruise control in a vehicle that never had it? It seems to me that I should be able to get the hardware from a DSM or another Galant and it would just be a matter of tapping in to some of the ECU/dash wires for the brain, and making some...
  32. Washers for Rear Subframe Bushings

Sweet. Thanks for the help guys.
  33. Washers for Rear Subframe Bushings

Ok, that explains that part of it thanks. The one thing I still would like to know though, is should there be anything between the car and the bushings, or do they go right against the body of the car?
  34. Washers for Rear Subframe Bushings

Sweet, so I know my moustache bushings are upside down at the moment... Oh well, easy to fix.As for the washers (aka stoppers), some people are saying the cone shaped washers are for the subframe, but this picture from Curtis looks to me like he has them on the moustache. clickThinking...
  35. Washers for Rear Subframe Bushings

Actually while I'm at it, which way do the moustache bushings even go in? I can't find any pictures that make it particularly obvious.
  36. Washers for Rear Subframe Bushings

I'm trying to install the poly subframe and moustache brace bushings I got from BoostX a while ago, but I've gotten completely mixed up about the washers. I managed to lose track of what came off where, and I can't seem to figure it out. It doesn't help that the factory manual and CAPS show...
  37. 6 bolt vs. 7 bolt Flywheel Inspection Cover

Can anyone tell me what the difference, if any, is between the 6 and 7 bolt flywheel covers? I know that they have different part numbers, but I just put a 2G transmission onto my 6 bolt engine and it seem like my 6 bolt cover would fit perfectly (the guy I bought the tranny from didn't have...
  38. What Brake Rotors?

Quoting GeorgeBillings: clickI found this. Has anyone bought rotors from them before? What size are the stock rotors? If you're looking at the Brembos on there they're not the right ones. Stock should be 276mm. Those are for non VR-4 Galants. Brembo# 25880 is what you want.
  39. Spatchana

He responded to my WTB thread within 24 hours of me posting it, and before I knew it I had a fine looking cross-member for a good price. Thanks!!
