    HSM1118 [Item awaiting publishing]

Took a few weeks off because it was cold! Beginning of March I dropped the pan to see what I can see.Mama Mia! The oil pickup took hits, the main cap bridge is snapped in half, there's another hole (heart shaped just above the rear balance shaft), rear balance shaft is bent and locking the oil...

    HSM1118 [Item awaiting publishing]

The rollback drops me off up the hill from the garage and I coast inside. With the freezing weather, I'm not enthused about starting the teardown in the middle of winter in an unheated garage, but for the first time since I've owned it, I had a little bit of $ set aside, and a good reason to...

    HSM1118 [Item awaiting publishing]

So its Jan 21, 19 degrees, about 60 mph, downshifted to third to pass the slow dogs, before darting right to take the Pennsylvania Ave exit off the inner loop of the DC beltway. I was accellerating 2 or 3 seconds before... Booom!!! Lots of smoke and steam, no power, can't see out the windshield...

    HSM1118 [Item awaiting publishing]

I've been "building" since I bought it nearly 20 years ago. It was mostly stock back then. I really wanted to be documenting everything, but many times I was "building" just so I could get to work! :wtf: So I didn't have much time to write it down. Back then, mods were mostly bolt ons. My...

    Valve cover gaskets

Are 1G and 2G valve cover gaskets identical? Sticking to OEM to reduce the variables, part numbers for the perimeter and wells (1G, MD125939 & MD125940) and (2G, MD186784 & MD186785). So are they different in dimensions, material formulation, or did they just revise part numbers with the models...

FS: Built 6-Bolt Head - Price Drop $1000

A few people asked why I couldn't use the head, so here is a short description... = = = Pistons are HERE. First I checked the clearance with hks 264/272 cams. It was a no go because both intake and exhaust valves hit the pistons. Next I tried with stock cams, but I still couldn't get the .030" I...

Stock Galant GSX Transmission Rebuild Questions

Get the VINs for the cars whose transmission parts you want to compare. Using CAPS you can drill down to the gears, bearings, shafts and other parts to compare their part numbers. This is how I figured out a 2G-ish trans from a 94+ AWD Expo (NNXL) would work in my 91 GVR4.

    Wrong Timing Belt Pulley Installed?

I seem to recall WAY back when, I replaced an idler on my GGSX. I tried to install the replacement idler using the original bolt, but it was too long. Hmmm...so I go looking it up on the VFAQ website and sure enough, the 90's cars used a different part number. From VFAQ...

    Valve/Piston Clearance

I have a question about calculating (or anticipating) piston/valve clearance issues. While waiting for my short block build, I picked up a set of 264/272 cams, and a built head with 2mm oversize valves. I wasn't looking for bigger valves, but as I was ready to buy parts for rebuilding my...

    What's up with this mess?

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I have a stock OEM disc I was thinking about using with the 2600 PP. But after considering it has only two springs (versus 4 in the ACT) and four rubber bumpers, I ordered the CC full face sprung disc. I like how the springs are almost completely enclosed, which...

    FS: Galant VR-4 Decals

I'd be interested in some #5 if he can make them to affix to the inside, and a little shorter to fit within the black masking on the glass. Had some of these years ago but I think I gave them away.
  27. holeshotmoe

    What's up with this mess?

Why do the ACT discs lose springs anyway? If they fixed the "issue", what did they change? Is there a serial number range that identifies the vulnerable discs? What other sprung disc, compatible with the 2600 plate never loses them? I put this in a couple years ago. Maybe 10K +/- since then...

    WTB: ECU for 90' GGSX

I have one from my GGSX with manual trans, 6/89-5/90 federal model. Took it to Dave at ECM Tuning to replace caps, clean it up since caps were leaking, and replace IC-105, which I think is one of the idle air control valve controllers. Looking for $120 shipped.

    Ac control module

FS: Tomica 1/64 scale diecast GVR4 model (New in Box)

Ha! Still have that black car? I remember meeting you about 10 years ago at a RallyX event near Lake Anna in VA. Filthiest Galant I ever saw! But one of the very few being used to do what they were made to do. And thanks again for the ride around the track. I still have a few pictures I think.

    Intercooler piping

If the black is same size as green, you could use a 135 deg coupler and a section of pipe to get it in the vicinity. I think I used a 90 flush against a 45 at the other end to slide right onto the ETS IC input pipe. Also made a small heat shield where it passes near the exhaust. I removed the...

Import vs Domestic at MIR - MD/DC/VA

MIR's biggest turnout every year. Last year they estimated 40,000 people but probably a few less. The 400+ car field has been locked for months. Must have been 20+ cars running 13Bs, floated in from the Caribbean. Great event to spectate, but you better be early. Arrive after say, 10 am and...

    Different front engine brackets?

    Different front engine brackets?

I just checked ASA for my galant and my 90 eclipse VINs and confirmed your numbers for the L-shaped brackets. Also confirmed your number for the cast piece. But I checked my eclipse and it has an "8", not a "10". Lastly, front-center bracket (under the turbo) on the eclipse has 347 on...

Yeah, I guess I'm trying not to remember the ignorant expressions on their faces when I handed them a printout of the tech bulletin specifying the procedure to do it correctly. ...and wouldn't the rest of the tread show signs of it dragging skewed? The edge is pretty severe. And would this tire pull the RR tire like the front would, or are they independently steered on the back?

    What's up with this?

I hear you. But here's the history. Had Mrs Tire rotate them to the back a little over a year ago. Had an alignment done at the same time. (Had just replaced front bearings so had them check the back too) Then I swapped to snow tires last December. Then this past March I swapped back to these...
