  2. Rear brake hassles

Just went through this on my car, except the bolt without the head was bent slightly. I had to use a large deadblow but it did end up coming off. If you can heat the caliper enough, you should be able to break the rust/corrosion that has it seized. As mentioned already, the boots kits, pins, and...
  3. WTB: Drivers side 3 bolt rear axle

I've got a clicking cv in my left rear axle that I'm looking to replace. Took it apart and I've got some pretty bad pitting on the outer cv. Someone has to have one stashed in their hoarding pile

  5. thermal r&d muffler

I've got a Thermal R&D catback originally for a 1g on my car. It's a 16"x8", 3" ID muffler. Sound is really good IMO. Not too loud on highway.clickWhat setup do you currently have?

School's been busy, especially with the FSAE competition in Michigan which just passed. The team spent lots of hours getting the car ready for it. We've got another one in Nebraska in a few weeks. I've been doing a few things here and there when I've got time, some mods and some minor...

  9. Bilstein/Swift install thread with front strut bushings

Quoting transparentdsm:how are these holding up man? Do any aggressive driving?Haha a bit...They've been taking back roads and on ramps like a champ! Coming up on 10k miles and they haven't budged. This strut/ spring combo is awesome too. Thanks again for them
  10. 5th O2 sensor wire?

Yea, that looks like shielded that is in the harness under the heat shrink.
  11. Driveshaft Stud Stripped/Cross Threaded

Did that first nut come off easily? Someone could have put an SAE nut instead of a metric nut on. +1 to a brass wire wheel. If the stud looks fine and not corroded in the rubber bushing, you could cut only have the stud and weld on a section with good threads. You'd just have to grind it down so...
  12. Bilstein/Swift install thread with front strut bushings

I ended up removing the small boss that is .551" in diameter to achieve a bit more camber adjustment. This way, the top bolt shoulder is right up against the strut ear, maximum negative camber.
  13. New owner of 433/1000

Hi Basit, welcome to the forums! Do you have an idea of the mods on the car? Also, do you know what cylinder is misfiring?
  14. 159/2000 Summit White Intro

Recently the car has been burning a decent amount of oil, gradually getting worse; about a quart every 500 miles. Started smoking after idling for a while so I figured either turbo seals or valve stem seals. I started with the turbo since its the original center assembly and has not been rebuilt...
  15. What is the best way to fix this?

I've been getting by with some tape for a few years but it didn't like the cold weather this year. I'll have to try the adhesive onto the foam.

Quoting GSTwithPSI: That flange looks pretty thin.1/4" thick. The Vibrant flanges are 3/8" but I just had to put these on the belt sander real quick to make sure it was flat. Haven't noticed any issues sealing so far.
  18. Trailing Arm Connecting Rod

This is probably a question best answered by those with 3000GT trailing arms on their Galant. Does anyone know the differences between this trailing arm connecting rod for the Galant/DSM and the 3000GT. I've read in one of the threads on here that a hole is bigger. Is this the hole for mounting...
  19. VR4 Clothing

I hope you still plan on doing this. I'd definitely be down for some galant swag.
  20. 159/2000 Summit White Intro

Quoting iceman69510: Welcome. Wing much on that FSAE car?Hehe, there's a little downforce. We have to use very aggressive aero to generate any usable downforce at our low speeds. Max speed on track is about 60 mph, and the average is about half that.A few weeks ago, I snagged a...
  21. Trailing Arm Connecting Rod

Yeah, in one of the videos you can clearly see one of the fore subframe bushings is pretty worn. I'll prolly try and replace these and the balljoints and get back to everyone. The "Trailing arm connecting rod" seems to be hard to find nowadays.
  22. Trailing Arm Connecting Rod

I've noticed some weird handling recently, so I decided to look into my rear suspension bushings. The right rear wheel has a noticeable amount of camber compliance just from pressing on the tire with my hands. I've linked to two videos of the trailing arm bushing and the lower ball joint. I've...

Hi Everyone,My name is Michael and I've been on this forums for a few years, posting a bit, but mostly lurking. I figured I'd do a real introduction for me and my car.I'm currently a Master's student at NC State pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree. I've also been on the FSAE team here...

  26. New here! 1992 #26/1000 Chicago

For the MAF wiring, the vfaq has a good guide. (http://www.vfaq.com/mods/2GMAF-1G.html). I can't seem to embed the link on my phone...The vfaq is a large database on mods for DSMs. It's getting old, but still has lots of great information on it. Definitely something you should have bookmarked.
  27. Automatic seat belt trigger?

I realize this thread is old, but I'm having a related problem.I've been having an intermittent problem with my driver's seatbelt for the past couple months. My seatbelt will retract at a specific angle open. Usually this is a few inches. At first, I was really confused why this was the case...
  28. Headlight replacement options

Just installed some 9011 bulbs in place of the original 9005. Got them from Amazon here. These are Philips bulbs even though they are sold as Wagner. Lots of other people have also been saying this on other forums.Pictures don't show the difference too well, but it's definitely much...
  29. 4WS dash light and electric pump noise at start up

I know the ABS light has lots of different patterns that mean different things. You could check the service manual and see if there is a key that can explain what the light staying on means. I suggest having someone poke around the engine bay while the car is started to try and pinpoint the source.

Spkye,With those bulbs, do you ever have issues with glare onto oncoming traffic since the 9012 lacks the black tip coating that is on the 9006?
  32. does anyone know what size and where to buy these?

I ended up taking the condom off of the bulb from the ashtray since that bulb isn't that important. I have gone around to local stores with no luck to finding the condoms though. From a quick search, it looks like eBay has a large assortment of different sized condoms. They don't like calling...
  33. Bilstein/Swift install thread with front strut bushings

That's convenient to be able to use the Evo cam bolts, I'm just not too keen on drilling my front knuckles for 14mm bolts.I do see what you're saying about the lower bolt needing a spacer, then the knuckle would pivot about this point. I tried to push the top of the knuckle in and pull the...
  34. Bilstein/Swift install thread with front strut bushings

I got around to installing the Bilstein shocks with Swift springs I picked up from transparentdsm. He's a really nice guy to work with and was very communicative. After reading lots of threads on how people installed the struts on the front, I decided I wasn't too keen on the idea of washers to...
  35. Power steering reservoir rubber seal

I realize this thread is old, but I'm leaking at my reservoir cap and can't find much information on this seal. Does anybody have a PN for either the seal or cap assembly with the seal?

  37. ISC open too much during idle

Ah, that's good to know! So, it is normal for engine speed to slightly drop while running things like headlights and defroster?
  38. ISC open too much during idle

Thanks for the replies.I've got a new ISC from Advance (carquest brand). I disconnected the battery last night to try and reset anything the computer might have "learned" while the ISC was disconnected. The car will now idle around 8-900 rpm with the ISC steps around 37-38. The BISS is almost...
  39. ISC open too much during idle

Hey guys,I have been having trouble getting a decent idle recently. I have been running a few months with the ISC unplugged while I try to figure out the problem. Stock 91 VR-4, using TMO to datalog. The ISC stays around 76 or 77 steps during normal idle, while the engine is around 1500 rpm...
