I have a fp racing manifold and I was told it is way too big for a 14b or 16g. I bought an ATP stock replacement and the interior of the runners are quite rough compared to my old cracked one. Should the ATP be smoothed out or will it not hinder exhaust flow enough as is?

Justin Whitesell on dsmtuner says it will kill the performance of a 14b or 16g. Turns the engine into a dog.

It was in an email. He is building a 14b and a big 16g for me. He said it will be less responsive and lose a couple hundred rpm of spool using a race manifold, they are for the Blacks and Zeros. So I bought a replacement ATP ex manifold.

Are we talking about the classic FP cast manifold? If we are, I'm sorry but this just doesn't sound right to me. Many vehicles have proven to run extremely well with a big 16g and fp manifold. I have read on some forums that changing away from the FP manifold helps spool on LARGER turbos as it becomes a slight restriction, but not smaller.

But I am on the bench. I do not own a shop and do not have much hands-on experience with any car but my own. I'd like to hear what some more experienced people have to say.

With super large turbos, there are gains with the Morrison Fab over the FP, but the FP isn't going to hurt power on a 14b/16g frame turbo.

Given that back in the day, the thing was to get an Evo3 or 2g manifold (and port the crap out of it), and the FP basically puts you where a ported evo3 ends up (with a few advantages to boot)...

Seriously though, it's probably the best value for a stock frame turbo out there. The Morrison manifold is beautiful, but unless everything else on the car is tapped out, I don't see the benefit for a stock-framed turbo. Compared to all the other cast manifolds, I think the quality speaks for itself, if I were still running a DSM flange I'd have one on my car.

Yes the classic cast FP is what is on it. Very nice piece.
The ATP manifold seems nice but is rougher inside the runners than the original. Perhaps slightly larger ports in vertical dimension.
Anybody else have some thoughts on the matter? All very interesting comments.
