Welp, I sold the car today. It was bitter sweet; that car was certainly a learning experience, lol! It's was sold to a member of this forum though, and he's got big plans for the car, I'm excited to follow along. I lost a lot of money on "restoring" #860 to DD status, but at least it lives on...
  2. FS: #860/1000 SOLD

Fixed...So here was the damage "under the skin" This bracket is supposed to be at 90º (pointing straight down). And the side bumper support:So I gently pulled and straightened everything out - wasn't that bad at all:I took off the pass side bracket to use as a template and made them...
  3. FS: #860/1000 SOLD

Haven't had time to pull bumper off, but it looks like worst case scenario it'll need a new bumper cover, headlight trim and fender. That's what ins quoted me (along with paint and labor). I figure used parts in good shape can be bought for under $200, then shipping and paint if colors don't...
  4. FS: #860/1000 SOLD

Volvo's are cool man! I just don't have room for both, nor do I want to split funds between two "play cars," at least not until I'm making 6 figures and only working 3 days a weekThe 240 is spotless so it gets the garage, and I hate to see the Galant out in the driveway all the time.
  5. WTB: Cruise control

I've one also, taken off my car at 114k miles:I swapped it for a non-cruise cable for looks / de-clutter the engine bay while the motor was out. I had a tone of old / cracked vac lines, and I suspect this is why the cruise never worked for longer than a few seconds... PM me an offer if...
  6. FS: #860/1000 SOLD

Update - the car was involved in a small fender bender last Friday - I am getting insurance involved and will certainly keep this post updated and adjust the price accordingly after the dust settles. No serious damage, and I'm going to fight to keep a clean title (that car is too nice of a...
  7. FS: #860/1000 SOLD

Cause I know you're going to want to know what I'm replacing this with...My family has always been into Volvo's - I was raised in a 240 Turbo wagon. My little brother scored a 2 door 240 Group A car (one of 500 ever made) and I thought getting the Galant could be a fun car to compete with...
  8. FS: #860/1000 SOLD

*Quick update - due to the fender bender (see below) I'll knock $500 off the asking price - offer good until I fix itWell, it's with bitter sweet emotion that I'm posting the Galant for sale - but I've found another car I couldn't pass up.ALL THE DETAILS are here in a build thread...

Few more updates. I've decided to keep the welded center diff (mostly because I tore into the old tranny and didn't have big enough sockets to bust the two shaft nuts off), and I like how it drives / steers - it almost has a self centering effect to it. Hard to describe, but in the corners you...
  10. downshifting is smooth as silk, upshifting is notchy - normal?

I just tossed in a "new" transmission (Shep trans that had been sitting in a corner in some shop for years...) and brand new clutch - all new shifter cables with new bushings on the transmission side (only one cable is adjustable), and all new bushings in the shifter linkage and aluminum...
  11. #860/1000 diary

Yeah, it's been a... thorough learning experienceWhen I felt confident enough I drove it home one night. Next morning I went out to drive it to work but the idle was ALL OVER THE PLACE; from 2000rpm to barely running - and my throttle input had little effect. Just as I though "vacuum leak"...
  12. Mystery no start

Good news everyone... I figured mine out; here was my culprit:That little body ground that sits under the fuse box. I tried bump starting the starter this morning and it didn't turn over. So I took starter to autozone to be tested and it passed??? So I got back and pulled the starter...
  13. #860/1000 diary

Well I'm glad to report that motor fired right up the first try, and with no leaks! I shut it off after a minute and went home for the evening.Came back the next day and fired it up again to let it fully warm up and top off all fluids. After idling for a bit I started noticing a "grumbling"...
  14. Mystery no start

Still no luck I've got continuity to every ground I can find under the hood, and to starter. I've tried jumping it off my battery charger and nothing happens (car is alive, I turn key and everything dies - nothing comes back on until I disconnect and reconnect battery). And I unplugged that...
  15. Mystery no start

Yep - tested all grounds I could get to with volt meter, and had battery checked last night and it was good. Next step is starter I guess?? Although I've never heard of a bad starter killing power to the entire car for a number of minutes...
