silicone brake fluid (DOT 5) generally has a higher boiling point than 3/4 and the best part is it will not eat your paint! Keep in mind that there is a range of dry/wet boiling temps between the DOT 3's and 4's (within the same) and of course there is synthetics too. Had a nice chart somewhere, but think it's at home of all the various fluids' brands and their data.

However, you need to get every single last bit of DOT 3/4/5.1 out of there, since DOT 5 is not compatible and will cause issues.

IMO, there is really not much need to go to DOT 5 other than the non-eating of paint...There is some good DOT 4 out there and esp. synthetic.

Ok, i am putting a new slave and master cyliner on the car, and at work we have the dot5, but we also carry this willwood 600 plus brand, its seems to be equivalent to dot4, but not sure if its synthetic.

I'd avoid dot5. I've bled that stuff and it seems way more tedious then 5.1,4,3.

Why DOT5? Do you expect your clutch fuild to boil over?

If you have tons of the DOT 5 lay around than sure why not use it in the clutch hyd system. But you are going out to buy a qt of DOT5 just for the clutch system I don't see the point. Clutch fluid doesn't get as hot a brake fluid.

The only real benefit to DOT 5 is that it does not absorb water. It is used primarily for older, classic or collector cars that are not driven but spend most of their time in storage. It is not really recommended for a regular driver.
