Does anyone know if they share similar parts like suspension and exhaust. Engine and transmission are similar (besides transmission having an LSD and rear end having a mechanical LSD).

Evo 1-3 is more like a 2g dsm. From what I have gathered, the trans will not fit in 1g cars, but the internals will.

The Evo 1-6 are built based on the Mirage sedan chassis, so they will have more things in common with those cars than a 2g dsm which was built based of the 7g Galant chassis.

Evo 1-3 trans will bolt into 1g dsms/ vr4, but not the other way around. Vr4 trans will not bolt into evo 1-3.

I believe the evo 1-2 trans/rear was the same mechanically as the galant RS, the evo 3 had the LSD front and mechanical rear. These may have been options on the 1-2 but not positive. I kinda recall the evo 3 having a unique trans and transfer case setup that's not compatible with anything else.
I have an evo 2 rear end in my car. The pumpkin doens't fit, but all the internals do and it's the same LSD as a 4-bolt DSM. I have this because I have the GVR4 RS trans in my car and you need this matching rear ratio.
