How the heck do you remove this from the transmission? Mine is missing the bolt that holds it in place yet it won't budge. Tips or tricks?

It is not a bolt. It has a threaded ring that you have to spin to loosen. Once you get the ring so it can slide up the cable, then just pull up and the cable will slide out.

Actually I've been having trouble with the one on one of my vr4s. After unscrewing it I had to wrestle with it for a good 20 minutes before the cable end would come out. I've done it on countless other cars and never had a problem before.
