3" custom 1g catback + ebay 2g downpipe... I lucked out :)

So a few days ago some money was burning a hole in my pocket so I decided it was time I did something about my exhaust. Picked up a eBay 2g downpipe off craigslist, then a local DSMer was selling his 3" catback due to it being too loud for his area. Wasn't sure if fitment was going to be an issue, but being that the GVR4's and 1g dsm's catbacks are routed on the same side, that's what I was banking on.

Just got back from the exhaust shop and the downpipe had some clearance issues with the swaybar. Little bending solved that problem... Catback was what I was really curious about. Turns out it bolted right up and only modification required was moving one hanger and cutting about an inch out of the last bend so the muffler was center with the bumper cutout.

Def happy with the final product. Can really hear the cams lope at idle. Turbo spools up quicker, and the added bonus of being able to really hear it spool through the exhaust. Best part of all, it's actually not loud at all, especially for what I was expecting. Also no drone inside the cabin /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Was interesting getting a catback 6+ ft long through that trunk cubby into the cabin.

Audio doesn't really do it justice. The Mic doesn't really pic up deep notes

Poor leather /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Looks nice though bro. Fittment looks pretty decent also. In the second video it was definitely louder sounding.

First vid was a cold start. Tends to quiet down more further up in the RPMS when driving

Nice score! I picked up a custom stainless steel 3" cat back exhaust system for a VR4 for about $45 dollars last year. It was a killer deal, the guy started it at that price and no-one bid on it. I put in one bid for the starting price and got it. The only issue is it is in the UK and I am not sure if it is a good exhaust for the GTi.

Nice! Sounds really good. What type of muffler does it have? If you still have some money burning a hole in your pocket I have some 17x7.5 4x114.3 rims that I will sell you since you are local /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's a single tip 3" muffler but no idea on brand. It was just too cheap to pass up, especially as being stainless I can sit on it for a while without any worries.

It's a 3" Vibrant muffler. The chrome one I took off as it was a bit too loud for my taste, that and a bit too "look at me". Trying to go for a VERY decreat build that doesn't draw any attention.

I see you're in Corona, shoot me a pm and maybe we can meet up sometime. I'm out that way (or close to) quite often
