Any suggestions on a really good engine degreaser/cleaner (Non Acid)? And once it is cleaned a good engine shine dress up product for the plastic pieces?

Washing a 25 year old engine bay is asking for trouble. None of the connectors are waterproof anymore.

The first thing I ask people about a random no start or misfire is if they washed out the engine bay. The cas seems to be the number one issue with water getting into the actual cas.

Agreed, if you go through with it wrap the coil pack/ptu, cas, throttle body and maf with plastic and tape. I've had great luck with purple power and my electric pressure washer. Stubborn spots may take a few tries but I hardly ever do more than spray it on and wait 15 min and then pressure wash it off.

I'd suggest wrapping parts on newer cars too just to be safe.

This is a good conversation. To add, I would get one or two circular brushed paint brushes (Autozone offers a quality brush) and allow your product of choice to penetrate carbon and soot deposits. I prefer Purple Power, it’s a strong chemical and works but do not let it dry. Then follow up with some aggressive brushing which will allow you to access those harder to reach areas that a rag (I always use microfiber) wouldn’t.

When done, use a microfiber towel to dry, frequently checking if any dirt is left on the towel. Then, I wrap up with spraying a bit of WD-40 onto a towel and apply it to vacuum and coolant hoses.
