Yeah that's the one I posted with the rust. It's completely missing the bushing. Those bolts go on top of the caliper.

Quoting G:

Dammit, I don't feel like taking everything apart to flip the bb tensioner around.

G, I see what the diagram you posted shows, but the way you have it installed will work depending on the pulley you have. It's the same way outlined in the VFAQ TSB, and is also how I've always installed my balance shaft tensioners. Typically, a 1G balance shaft tensioner should be installed with the lip inward. A 2G pulley should be mounted the opposite way, lip out. Here's the thing though, there are versions of the 1G pulley that mirror the newer 2G design (2G pulley is .5mm wider) so depending on what tensioner you get, that will determine its orientation. You can measure the width of the pulley, or in my case, see if it contacts the hydraulic tensioner, leaving only one way to possibly install it. You'll know because the lip of the balance shaft tensioner pulley contacts the main hydraulic tensioner when the balance shaft belt is adjusted properly, or at least, that's my experience. I usually use Gates timing hardware, so I'm not sure if using an OEM Mitsu tensioner is different. Just don't want you to have to re-do work if you don't have to.

VFAQ's answer:
"NOTE that if you are replacing the balance belt tensioner pulley, there is a lip on this pulley - on 95s, the lip goes on the inside, towards the block. 97-up, possibly 96-up, have a different pulley with a smaller lip, their pulley installs with the lip on the outside. Click on the pics at the top of the VFAQ to see a closeup of a 95 engine - notice the larger lip than what you will have with a 97-up (possibly 96-up)."

As you can see, the lip (left arrow) would hit the hydraulic tensioner where the right arrow indicates. Again, this will vary depending on the tensioner being used.

I second guessed myself when I was installing it. As I was installing it I thought wait this lip is going to hit the HT so I flipped it around. I have an oe pulley from ntn, so now I don't know what to do. This is the first time i've left a b belt and b shaft installed.

As long as the Balance shaft belt is tracking properly in the middle of the balance shaft cog, and also on the tensioner, I don't see why you would need to flip it. Also, make sure it's not rubbing anywhere. Run the part number of the tensioner you installed and check the width. If you are really worried, just flip it, but personally I would leave it be if the belt is tracking as it should.

No those are long gone. The thermostat I posted above turns out is a OE unit. It's designed to break when it's life is no more.

Slapped the tail lights back in today. The epoxy worked perfectly. Replaced all the rubber isolators (13) and nut caps (6).

The trunk light was not cutting it. Slapped in a 48 led unit >> click Bright as a mother.
