I'd be interested in finding out the results as well. I had a set of Evo8 cams and just did more research and found out it's not worth all the effort. So I brought dks hks 272's and I love them.

i used evo 8 intake cam as 1g intake cam.

cam gear dowels should be indexed first.

here's how to index it: click

once you've marked or indexed the cam gear dowels, put the evo 8 intake cam on the 1g intake side of the cyl head with the new cam gear mark/dowel at 12:00.

with the CAS side of the cam exposed but without the cam caps, you will have the base of the cas side cam cap as a reference line to mark the cam.

this line you will 'draw' will be the center line of the slot that needs to be machined on the evo 8 intake cam.

hope you get it from these pics below...[first pic is exhaust cam, but attached just to show you how it should be indexed]...

*thanks for the pics taken from gvr4 and dsmtalk...

That's a good thread I didn't find. Thank you. So to sum it up: aftermarket cam gears with two holes, mark parallel to the top surface of the head and then cut.

yes.

done it several times already with evo 7, hks, fp.

it was easier to find later evo cams than dsm ones, thus the need to study.

be careful with the aftermarket cam gears with the 2 dowel holes.

the dowel holes are 90deg apart, BUT the evo cam gears' timing marks inline aren't at 12:00 when the dowel holes is at 12:00.

take a look several times before actually putting the new dowel holes.
