Intrepid COP setup!!!

If anyone is thinking about doing the coil on plug setup, this would be the place and time to buy them. 250.00 is a great deal. Just in parts now, I have over 200.00 and I still haven't made my plate. The only thing I don't get is why one of the setups is 250.00 and the other is 500.00. Does anyone have a clear answer for this?

I forgot to say, Tym Switzer is selling them so you know you get a quality setup!

That is for sure, dirt cheap. Like I said I am making my own and I will have that much in parts alone.

Re: COP setup!!!

I think I can mass produce these, for around $200/each, including coils, plate, plugs, and quality cardboard packaging. Mine are made of 1/4" alum. also.

Re: COP setup!!!

I think the only difference is that a 2.7 uses a spring, and a 3.5 uses a rod. Also,, my 2.7's have the two mounting holes oposite each other, not one on one side, and the other on the end. Other than that, they look identical. I don't imagine there is much difference in performance for one over the other. Maybe someone else who knows can chime in. Also, I've read that the springs can be removed and replaced with a copper or aluminum rod, which would make it the same thing.

Re: COP setup!!!

I really would like to know why there are 2 different prices for apparently the same thing as well?!? AEM is coming out with the CDI and individual coils as well. You still need to use wires and plugs but other than that, it still seems to be a nice set up.

Called him to verify.
The price is $249.00 He doesn't know why the $499 item is still up there. That was the old price. He don't want to say which coils he use 2.7 or 3.5
He's affraid people will copy it.

Re: COP setup!!!

definitiely a cool idea and when I get my galant I may get those, just for ease of install and cleanliness, but looking at the pic on ebay, the aluminum was cut horribly. If you look closer on the right side, it's all jagged and none of the holes are even drilled straight...pretty half ass to me.

I'll look somewhere else for a COP

Re: COP setup!!!

it's probably worth it if you have the msd ignition or aem system, but other than that, I don't see how it can be better...

My buddy made his for dirt cheap a lot less than 250...pretty sure it was about 75 all together...he used coil packs out of a chrysler 300m. It looked cool and worked with his msd ignition, but he said he couldn't notcie any difference just from driving it daily, plus his rubbed up against his hood...

Re: COP setup!!!

If you are dumping in alot of fuel and spraying nitrous you don't want your spark to blow out. So I would have to say yes, it is worth it!! Read in the how to article on curtis's setup. He said it was worth every bit of it.

Re: COP setup!!!

You could build one for around $50, if you wanted to use used parts, and cut your own plate with a saw or something. I get to cut them on a laser, so mine are pretty.

If I could get a list of Mitsu part numbers I bet I could get the whole setup cheaper then $200.
25% of list prices helps
The 99-03 Diamante's have 3.5Lmotors do they use coil on Plug? I'll have to look at my sister's ride and check.

looks nice but I personally wouldnt bother with that COP stuff. The only standalone I run is Electromotive, which includes the coils, and Ive seen the stock coil packs support 500 wheel nicely.

You need a ride in a car before and after. They work.
It's not always about top end HP but drivability, thats where they really perform, HP and torque both go up but the off idle is crisp and the part throttle to passing on the street pulls way better.

Keep up the good work John you'll love it.

NOT BAD????? compared to the $20-$35 ea were paying for the other ones, that is real bad. I doubt their much easier to hook up either, since theyve had 12 years worth of redesigns on their electronics. NOt dissing you, just making a point.

Lexan would be way cool and would stand up to the heat, but theres no room for error it would have to be perfectly cut or it would look like poop. I looked in my plastics handbook and can't remember the engineering name for lexan to find its melting point. I'll see if I can find it.
